Technical and economic feasibility project for the docking of the external front of the Clementino quay in the Port of Ancona

Central Adriatica Sea Port Authoriry — 2017
  • Preliminary environmental and landscape study
  • General report
  • SEA (Strategic Environment Assessment) Screening and scoping

The project involves the construction of a new quay on the external front of the North-Clementino quay of the Port of Ancona, able to guarantee the approach of ships up to a length of over 300m, in order to meet the new requirements relating to the provision of a safe and functionally organized landing place for vessels of various types.

In order to proceed with the screening phase of the Environmental Impact Assessment a preliminary environment and landscape assessment report has been produced, as required by the client.

The study included:

  • the comparison between different design options

  • the analysis of the impacts deriving from the removal of the wreckage of the Sunrise motor vessel lying on the seabed adjacent to the quay, for which a specific underwater biological survey was commissioned

  • analysis of the impact of the new quay layout on the viabiliy network within and around the harbour area

One of the main objective of this project is to allow modern cruise ships to dock at the port of Ancona, allowing it to act as a new hub. This implies a new intended use for this area of the port with a modification of the harbour Master Plan. This needs an evaluation of the possible environmental impact of the new activities to be implemented.

A specific Strategic Environment Assessemnt report aim at screening and scoping phase of the SEA procedure was therefore prepared.
